I end every show with the phrase “Anarchy! Agorism! Activism! NOW!”. I’ve been getting some questions why, so here is an explanation of A³:

  • Anarchy!
Anarchy is the goal. Anarchism is a philosophy built on the ideas of non-coercive social interaction and abolishing authority.  There are many different flavors of anarchism, but I am talking specifically about market anarchy with this statement.  Market anarchy is built on the idea that all services, including services provided by governments can be, and should be, provided in a free marketplace.  More about market anarchy from The Center for a Stateless Society

  • Agorism!
Agorism is the way. Agorism is a revolutionary philosophy largely defined by the tactical use of counter-economics to achieve a free market based society.  Counter-economics is defined as all activity discouraged or banned by the state.  As the state becomes more oppressive, more and more people will rise up and start taking back their own lives.  Because just about everything humans do involves some form of transaction, this opens up the opportunity for people to start offering their services and goods free from government regulation and taxation, thereby competing with legitimate “white market” businesses (‘white market’ defined as business that do work within the confines of state control).  The formation of “black and grey market” business will lead to a strong underground economy.  Eventually almost every service that is currently “provided,” regulated or taxed by the state will be available in the underground economy, bringing the state to its knees because of a lack of funding and support.  Find out more about agorism at agorism.info

  • Activism!
Activism is just that, the call for action. While some people already work within the counter-economy, the percentage is low and most are not doing it with the goal of building the counter-economy.  The waitress at your neighborhood diner likely doesn’t claim all of her tips, even though it’s a federal offense not to.  If you smoke cannabis, the whole process from grower to seller to you is tax free (sans a bribe here and there).  And if you look on your local Craigslist, I’m sure you wouldn’t have any problem finding day laborers that not only don’t pay taxes, but might not even be in the country “legally!”  These individuals work hard and keep the money they earned for their labor, a fundamental part of libertarianism.  So why is it that libertarians are so quick to reject the idea that we too can and should be a part of the counter-economy?  The first step we can take is to become friends with those who work within the counter-economy and explain to them the ideas of liberty, the benefits of an agorist society, and how they are helping us win the upcoming revolution.  Some people might be turned off by this, but many are already anti-authoritarian at heart (why would they be evading the government if they weren’t?) and simply haven’t been introduced to these ideas in a fashion that applies to their lives.  Secondly we need to practice what we preach: start underground businesses. There are many resources out there that will help you on your journey.  Be warned though, there is a possibility that you will go to prison for working in the counter-economy. If you think smart and are careful about how you conduct your business, you can prevent this greatly. Finally we need to reach out to those outside of the counter-economy.  We will never grow if we do not teach our fellow libertarians and those within our communities the great benefits of our strategy.  However, when teaching others about agorism, NEVER tell them how you are contributing to the counter-economy. You could be talking to a state or federal agent, or worse a snitch.

Hopefully this page helped ya’ll understand A³ a bit better.  I will be adding more resources to this page as time goes on.

(p.s. a3 is known as the “Agorist Action Alliance”.  I am differentiating between this theoretical organization and the A³ strategy above, even though the phrase “Agora! Anarchy! Action!” comes from that direction.  No confusion is intended).
